Arathy SB is a PhD student with the Digital Good Network, within the Department of Sociological Studies at the University of Sheffield. Working with Professor Helen Kennedy and Dr Ros Williams, her research explores the intersections of caste, class, gender and sexuality in experiences of menstruating individuals in India, in the realm of period tracking applications. Specifically, she examines the gendered dimensions of surveillance, safety, and privacy inherent in the use of these applications.

Arathy completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Journalism and Mass Communication in India, fostering an understanding of media dynamics and societal constructs. Her academic journey has instilled a profound interest in issues surrounding gender, self-tracking, and caste within the context of digital technologies.
