Digital health: the digital good in low-resource settings in Africa, Bronwyn Harris

Access to quality healthcare remains a major problem in sub-Saharan Africa. Digital technology can overcome barriers; but it can also create ethical dilemmas for healthcare workers, decision-makers and communities who want affordable services without compromising quality or losing control over health data. The Digital health project articulates and conceptualises these dilemmas through a series of vignettes, while developing a shared language and framework. Bronwyn Harris and the team will present and explore these dilemmas and the research behind them.
Opening up and archiving qualitative data from research with marginalised/minoritised groups: ethical challenges

In recent years, we have witnessed a push to archive research data for re-use by researchers and other interested parties. This includes qualitative data, and data from research with marginalised and minoritised people. Some commentators are rightly concerned about whether it is possible to open up such data in ways which are respectful, ethical and just – as well as Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable, the FAIR principles of data management and stewardship.
This Digital Good in Progress webinar will address these issues. The webinar will see a discussion with Łukasz Szulc, one of the authors of ‘Open science, closed doors? Countering marginalisation through an agenda for ethical, inclusive research and communication.’
Systems, stories and stewardship – rethinking the mental models behind data and AI

This event explored how mental models shape the way institutions and organisations understand data, value communities, and make decisions, and why challenging these default mental models is essential for equitable data governance. It also explored how these mental models shape and influence AI.

This event brings into conversation Digital Good Network fellows to debate visions of the digital good from the perspective of the Global South. Drawing from their ongoing projects, Digital Good Network Fellows compare and contrast non-Western and indigenous frameworks of good digital living and engage with debates about how to apply decolonial theories and methodologies in their knowledge creation.

Cooperativa digital: Creating a community-run mobile app in Brazil, Rosendy Galabo
